Playoff Update

February 29, 2008

Major Midget

Struggling to cope with injuries to four players, the Cobras knew their semi-final series against the first-place Nepean Raiders would be tough. In the first game, Nepean skated away with a convincing 6-1 win. The second game was closer, with Nepean edging the Cobras 5-4. The third game is scheduled for February 29.

In the first round, the Cobras were matched against the Kanata Blazers. The two teams split four regular season games, and finished just one point apart in the standings, so a close series was expected. In game one, the Cobras dominated the first half of the game, jumping out to a 5-0 lead, but then the tide turned and Kanata filled the net with five goals of their own. The game ended 5-5.

In the second game, Eastern Ontario built a 4-3 lead over the first two periods.  Mindful of their third period collapse in game one, the Cobras poured it on in the third and won 8-3 despite missing four players with injuries. Kanata won the third game 2-1, but the Cobras sent them packing in the fourth game with a 5-3 win.

Major Bantam

The Major Bantam Cobras fought the good fight, but in the end, the Gloucester Rangers were too much, winning 6 points to 4 in a series that went five games. The team has struggled all year against Gloucester, losing three of four regular season games against their first round opponent.  The Rangers made it look easy winning the opener 6-2, but the Cobras served notice they were not to be taken lightly, tying up the series with a 4-2 win on Feb 22. Game 3 saw the Cobras take a 4-2 series lead with a 4-1 win, but the Rangers won the last two games 7-2 and 6-4 to eliminate Eastern Ontario. "We tried our best and never gave up," said coach Dennis Sweeney.

Minor Midget AA

The Minor Midgets faced an uphill battle against the first place Kanata Blazers.  Down 4-0 after dropping the first two games in the series, the Cobras were simply overmatched against the Blazers, and were swept in three games by Kanata.

Minor PeeWee A

The series between the PeeWee A Cobras and the Silver Seven White went five games, and required overtime in the last game before a winner emerged. Unfortunately, the Cobras came up on the short end of a 2-1 score.

Atom Minor B

The entry-level Cobras team struggled in the playoffs against a strong first round opponent, and were swept in two games by first place Cumberland Blue.

Congratulations to all of the Cobras players, coaches and parents for a great season!

Maxime Choquette

Maxime Choquette has 8 goals and 9 points in his first three playoff games with the Pee Wee A Cobras.
